David a Type of Christ

The Shepherd of our Faith

The Shepherd of our Faith

David, the Beloved, a simple shepherd caring for the flocks of his father learns the necessary skills, while feeding and protecting the sheep and constantly meditating on things of God, to become King over God’s inheritance, Israel.

Jesus the Beloved of God begins his ministry as a young man, unknown to the others except as the carpenters son from Nazareth. He lays down his life for the sheep and is the shepherd of our faith, feeding and protecting  and schooling us in “every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.” As he “learned obedience by the things that he suffered,” it prepared him for the inheritance and role of priest and King, the great Melchizedek, David in antitype, when he comes to set up his kingdom.
