Bible Study/Discourse: Doctrines are a scriptural teaching or understanding. Not all doctrines carry the same weight of importance. For instance, there are fundamental doctrines such as: the Ransom, Baptism, Righteousness, Repentance, Salvation. Then there are dispensational doctrines that are relevant to different time periods. The doctrine “truth” that a great flood is coming to destroy everything is not relevant to today, but it was of the utmost importance in the days of Noah. It was a matter of salvation! There are also doctrines of demons (universal salvation) and also unsound doctrine. A thing can be true, but is not edifying, such as “endless” genealogies.
As a Christian it behooves us to weigh and discern doctrines. 1) is it a fundamental doctrine–that is not open to interpretation and if not taught correctly will affect salvation? 2) is it a prophetic doctrine? Being that it has to do with future events, it by nature can be open to interpretations because the light is not yet clear on the matter. 3) Is it a doctrine of demons which will lead a Christian down a very dangerous path of denying scripture or causes divisions (because of a bad heart motive not in accordance with the Word.), or unprofitable in that it does not edify anyone?
Once we categorize the doctrine what do we do? There is a time to speak and a time to keep silent, there is a time to embrace adn a time to refrain from embracing. This Bible study explores many different scenarios that a Christian may come up against and how to judge what one should do in that instance.
