Why is Jeremiah rightly called the prophet of doom?
I guess that could be said about a lot of prophets. Jeremiah prophecied for years about the destruction and desolation of Judah and the Temple. When the city is under siege he tells them of surrender, after they kill Gedaliah, he warns them not to go to Egypt. He also prophecies about the fall and destruction of Babylon.
He is only a prophet of doom, because they wouldn’t listen, had they listened in the first place to Isaiah (who they cut in half), Jeremiah wouldn’t have to have spoken the words he did. But Zedekiah didn’t want to hear it and put him in prison.
The object lesson is to listen and obey.
