The Passover meal was the last sustenance that Jesus partook of before his death. He went forward in the strength of that meal of deliverance, fulfilling its meaning as the Lamb of God in every respect, until his testing time was completed. May the strength we absorb from this simple feast he instituted empower us to go forward in this “new year” (Exodus 12:2) to faithfully face and embrace our testing and challenges as we remember him.
When Jesus arrived at that meaningful last Passover, he knew what fate awaited him. A terrible death lay before him in order to give his life as a ransom for man’s redemption.
Nakba is an Arabic term meaning “catastrophe,” which they use to describe the establishment of the modern State of Israel. The Defense Secretary responded “You know, our goal would be to seek international permission. And we would come to the Congress and inform you and determine how best to approach this, whether or not we would want to get permission from the Congress.”
As a point of interest, this book is called the “Book of Malachi,” and the word “Malachi” means “my messenger.” Thus this book is a paronomasia, a play on words, used by God to keep the message from being understood too clearly too quickly. Present truth is needed to even begin to scratch the surface.
It is hard to “turn many away from iniquity” if one is not a good example himself of walking properly before God. The priesthood of Malachi’s day was doing the opposite and, consequently, was leading many into iniquity.
Trade unions across Europe held small protests March 4 calling for governments to force companies and shops to shut on Sunday, as Catholic preachers supported the campaign from the pulpit.
