Mat 18:20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
Is verse 20 inferring that God is not with us when we praying alone or that He is with us to a lesser degree that He would be if we were in a group?

We as Christians are told "not to forsake the assembling of ourselves together." We are to do our best to meet and study God's Word with others of like precious faith. We here have the promise that God will bless that effort and gathering. Even if there be only 2 of you.
It is also a lesson to Christians who think that God is in the Mega churches and not in the small home churches. They are dead wrong! It isn't numbers that counts, but who is in that number.
God hears us in our closets, we have that promise. But when we pray as a group over something special it is amplified by all the hearts in haromony and unity. We have had the practice on very urgent matters, to either all pray at a certian time (say when one is going into surgery), or stand in a circle and each one say a prayer on the specific matter, as a special petition of our Lord.

You can never consider yourself alone when you pray. It is always God and you! Even if you thing you are alone, God is always with you.

I think we have a great example with natural Israel. When they were seeking God, God was with them. When they were seeking Baal and other false gods, God was not with them. If we can extrapolate, God is with everyone who is seeking Him, seeking to understand and do His will, seeking to understand His word. And God is with the true seeker 100% of the time. He is also in the midst if multiple seekers gather together.

God hears our prayers but when we pray together, study together He is in our midst. And
we are admonished to meet together so much the more as we see the time draw near.
And truly the time is near. We should all want that added blessing of Him in our midst
pouring more of His spirit to guide and strengthen us in these evil days. "Ask and it shall be
given you ; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you"…
Let us ask, seek and knock together.
