In addition, the Council on American-Islamic Relations has filed a federal civil rights complaint over Parris’s comments. CAIR says the mayor violated the civil rights of non-Christians by stating, during his annual State of the City address, that Lancaster was “growing a Christian community.”
Parris has told a Los Angeles newspaper that would “absolutely not” apologize for his remarks.

Peter Vadala was fired, and the company says he violated a tolerance policy. But Vadala reports his dismissal came because he expressed his Christian view of homosexuality after a female manager made repeated references, as she approached him four times during work hours, to her plans to marry her lesbian partner.
I’m not allowed to be offended by a homosexual … I was told that since homosexual marriage is supposedly legal in Massachusetts, that I was wrong for being offended,” Vadala said.

The legal panel on Foxnews noted that we have the First Amendment, as if to say, a Mrs. Howe here in America is protected under constitutional law. Also, the consensus was that no judge in their right mind would prosecute an old lady whose “intent” was not to harm anyone. I understand this is because of the difficulty in proving someone’s intent, and is a common defense. However, there is a problem with the notion that ‘intent’ would determine the innocence or guilt in a hate crimes case.

A “hate crimes” plan that opponents have warned will be used to crack down on Christian speech, even the reading of the Bible, is be signed by President Obama, a longtime proponent of the plan to give homosexuals and those with other alternative lifestyles special protections.
The move is a step toward thought crimes and suggested the bill will be a warning against those to speak out about their religious faith.

An article by the leader of the far-right Sweden Democrats claiming that Islam is the biggest threat to Sweden since World War II is tantamount to hate speech, according to legal experts.
A number of jurists believe the text, published in the opinion section of the Aftonbladet newspaper, qualifies as agitation against an ethnic group (hets mot folkgrupp).
