It is hard to “turn many away from iniquity” if one is not a good example himself of walking properly before God. The priesthood of Malachi’s day was doing the opposite and, consequently, was leading many into iniquity.

This is the object of the sin-offerings; to release mankind from the dominion of death and restore them to the perfection of being which is essential to perfect happiness and at-one-ment with the Creator. This is the blessing which comes to all the families of the earth through The Seed of Abraham. This is the good news which was preached to Abraham, as we read: “God, foreseeing that He would justify the heathen [all mankind—Gentiles] through faith, preached before the gospel [good tidings] to Abraham, saying, In thee, and in thy seed, shall all nations be blessed [justified]…which Seed is Christ [primarily the head, and secondarily the body]; and if ye be Christ’s [members] then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise” referred to—viz.: that these may bless all the families of the earth. (Gal. 3:16,19) But the Seed must be complete before the blessing comes, as shown in the type just considered:—The sin-offering must be ended before all the blessings resulting can flow out.

Spiritual Israelites must learn this lesson—that in handling the holy things of the divine Word, the divine plan, the services of the Truth, the ministry of the Church of Christ, they are not at liberty to do as they please, merely assuring themselves that their motives are good. It is their duty to note carefully the divine will and to follow out the program in the order of the directions of the divine Word. Furthermore it is for us to learn, too, that God designs that not all the services are to be performed by one or two persons, but that there is a part in the service of God for all of the consecrated and that each is to be granted the opportunity for such service, as the Lord has planned. Some may occupy the priestly service, which others may not enjoy, and some may occupy the Levites’ service, and their opportunities are not to be taken from them. Again another important lesson to be learned by Spiritual Israelites is that God is guiding His own affairs; that He is as much interested in them as we are and more, too, and that He is fully capable of their management. Some of the Lord’s people carry great burdens which do not belong to them and which hinder them from the rest and joy which otherwise might be theirs. Others are so active, so zealous, that they fancy that the work of God would not be accomplished at all unless they did it. The Lord wishes us to learn the important lesson, “In all thy ways acknowledge him,” “and he shall give thee the desires of thy heart.” Only by recognizing the Lord as first in every feature of His work and by recognizing ourselves as honored by Him in every opportunity of service shall we be able to bring blessing to ourselves and to others.

Caught Up In A Whirlwind Many Christians have not noticed that there is not only a difference between the heavenly salvation, which God has provided for the Church, and the earthly restitution (Acts 3:19-21) which God has provided for the world, but additionally there are two distinct classes of the Church brought to our attention [...]

The “maw” included the (first) stomach, or rumen, but additionally pertained inferentially to the mouth, tongue, throat, and esophagus tube that conducts food to the first stomach. Although the emphasis was on the stomach, anything of value as a food or otherwise that was in the passageway to the stomach was included. For example, the first stomach had value as a household container for liquids. The rumen was useful and convenient for carrying fluids such as wine because it was not porous and awkward like a clay jar. The word “maw” seems to be related to the sound that comes from the ox and the sheep. Air from the passage tube produces the sound.

When discussing the first question we see the proper understanding of the statement and how it harmonizes with being “wise as a serpent and harmless as a dove.” We come to realize our role and how we must have and deal with others with love and respect.
Grieving the holy Spirit is a very comprehensive study of which this meeting only touches the surface. We can grieve the Spirit by willfully putting ourselves in situations that would be harmful to the New Creature, or to avoid a situation or confrontation with another Christian because of fear of man, fear of losing that fellowship instead of fear of losing God’s fellowship. Compromising on principle will grieve the holy Spirit as will procrastination and foolish speaking, or any violation of our conscience.

The clause “thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations” stands out. There is a limit in trying to exercise supposedly goodwill toward others in allowing them to express their opinions. We must be careful because wrong doctrines are seductive. It is not sufficient to tolerate them and allow them to exist by giving a deaf ear. The danger in being too liberal is that lo and behold, before we know it, they can become a part of our daily living. The compromising attitude is very dangerous.

Verses 1–6 are a historical commentary on what took place at the foot of Mount Sinai in Moses’ absence. In verses 7–14 God informed Moses, who was still up on the mount, about the events just described by the commentator. We will consider these verses in more detail. When Moses delayed to come down from the mount, the people demanded that Aaron make gods to go before them in returning to Egypt (Acts 7:37–40). Moses was on Mount Sinai for 40 days and nights. We do not know how much time elapsed before the molten calf was built, but probably about 10 days remained from the time the people went to Aaron; that is, they may have waited a month before going to him.
What seemingly justified the people in taking up this matter with Aaron? What were they thinking? They reasoned that Moses was dead and that thus he was not coming back. They showed disrespect for Moses in saying, “This Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt …” They lacked faith and felt they were abandoned in the desert. Hence they were thinking about going back to Egypt.

God tells us that Jesus our Ransom will be mediator of a New Covenant to be testified in due time. As Christians, Jesus is our Advocate and not our Mediator, because through him and by him we have a standing with God and are not at odds. When will this New Covenant take effect? How many covenants are talked about in the Scriptures and when are they applicable? This booklet takes a look at the various covenants and also the sin offerings of the Day of Atonement and their true significance.
