Anyone who can say that they can interpret prophesy to the “t” can’t be trusted. It is interpretation based on scripture–therefore cannot be understood in full until it is a past event.

We get only a brief insight into Jesus’ discussion with the apostles, a synopsis of the drift of the conversation. In the vision, Jesus discussed his death with Moses and Elijah. Hence the topic of his death would have been discussed further as he and the three apostles descended the mountain.

Hosea Chapter 6: God Tells Israel their Transgressions

With natural Israel, the “former rain” refers to their earlier period of favor. Israel had prophets, the Law, the Tabernacle, the Temple of Solomon, etc. The early rain ended with the Diaspora, the great gulf fixed between the Jews and God, as shown in the Parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus (Luke 16:19-31). Now the dry bones (Ezekiel 37) are beginning to come together. Sinews (organizations) are attached to the bones, and flesh has even appeared on the body state of Israel. However, from God’s standpoint, the breath of life has not yet entered Israel.

Not until Jacob’s Trouble will that happen—when the nation of Israel will stand on its feet in a real way. When God fights for Israel as He did in days of old, that will be like an awakening from the dead (Zech. 14:3). There will be a mighty shaking and a resurrection, as it were, both figuratively and literally (the Ancient Worthies).

Verse 5 is like saying to the Holy Remnant that the hopeless condition both the ten- and the two-tribe kingdoms were in necessitated the Lord’s turning His face from Israel for a long period of time so that they would get the lesson. In the past, through the prophets, God warned of the sinful condition, but Ephraim and Judah turned a deaf ear to the need for repentance. God “cut … [them] in pieces with the prophets” (NIV). It is as if at this end of the age, God is explaining about the warnings given to the ten- and the two-tribe kingdoms before they got so corrupt, and then, when they were in an unfit condition, what the necessary steps of repentance were. Because the warnings were ignored, judgment was necessary. Hewing the nation by the mouth of the prophets sounds like Jeremiah’s ministry.

ARE the principles of right and wrong so firmly fixed in my mind, and am I so thoroughly in accord with the right and so opposed to the wrong that I would not encourage the wrong, but must condemn it, even if it brought advantage to me? Am I so in accord with right, with truth, that I could not avoid rejoicing in the Truth and in its prosperity, even to the upsetting of some of my preconceived opinions, or to the disadvantage of some of my earthly interests? The love of God, which the apostle is here describing as the spirit of the Lord’s people, is a love which is far above selfishness and is based upon fixed principles which should, day by day, be more and more distinctly discerned, and always firmly adhered to at any cost.


Consideration of the Seven Parables of Chapter 13

“Blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear. For … many prophets and righteous men have desired to see … and to hear [understand] those things [but it was not given them to know].” The disciples were given the understanding, but before Jesus explained the parable, he told them that they were in a unique position. The lesson is that before the Lord gives us advanced understanding and truth, we must act. We must have the desire and must hunger and thirst for further righteousness if we are to be filled. Holy men of old had this desire and were in the proper heart condition, but it was not yet due time for this understanding.


Overall Observations of Chapter 13, Various Parables

The different types of ground the seed fell on represent different heart conditions. In the Parable of the Wheat and the Tares, the instruction was not to uproot the tares until the end of the age. Thus a progression was shown. The Parable of the Mustard Seed indicates that the primitive Church started with relatively few people but grew into a large nominal system (Papacy).

In other words, we are considering these parables from a different standpoint now—a dispensational standpoint. The woman who hid leaven in the three measures of meal pictures the adulteration of truth by Papacy in three primary areas: love, faith, and hope. Treasure being hid in a field pictures the Dark Ages, when it was very difficult to find the Word of God. Diligence and effort were required.


Ezekiel Chapter 37 Valley of Dry Bones, Sticks:Beauty and Bands

Chapter 37 is known as the Vision of the Valley of Dry Bones. In verses 1 and 2 God took an interesting approach with Ezekiel. The prophet was shown the valley, but that was not enough. He had to travel all the way around the valley and really observe and be impressed with the fact that it was FULL of bones and the bones were VERY DRY.

Probably Ezekiel was transported to this valley by means of a vision or a trance. His seizure by the Holy Spirit, a private experience not shared by the people, did not necessarily occur at night—it could have happened during the day. At any rate, Ezekiel felt this experience. What do the “dry bones” suggest? Not only was there no life, but the bones had had no life for a long time. They were like the bones in Egypt dating from the Persian Empire under Cambyses II at the Amenehat Pyramid, that is, thousands of years old and very dry.

Ezekiel had to pass around the valley in order to have the scene impressed upon him. He saw “very many [dry bones] in the open valley [a broad expanse of valley, not just a gorge].” The implication is that the bones were scattered throughout the valley, and this disposition is significant for the antitype.
